Community Champions: Bolstering businesses and championing charities

The Covid-19 pandemic has left many businesses and charities feeling overwhelmed with the responsibility and challenge of weathering an economic storm. Today, we would like to recognise Deidre Richardson for offering her business skills to help those struggling to stay afloat.

Recalling the moment that she decided to volunteer her time, Deidre explains: “In the first few weeks of lockdown, the scale of the pandemic was truly overwhelming, with the news cycle on constant repeat about the global death rate and the economic crisis. Mindful of the effect this was having on me and my family, I decided to dedicate my time outside of work to supporting the community and being a good role model to my teenagers.”

A story about vets, facemasks and a gruelling 24 hours of exercise

David Meer, a veteran and cross-fit coach at HR4K London and owner of the Project IronSouls charity organised a virtual community fitness challenge to raise money for PPE. 

Project IronSouls is a platform to bring veteran communities together via sport and outdoor adventure activities to help with recovery and to create a military community.

Back to School

The government has decided to send children back to school in England starting on the first of June. The plan is a phased return, in compliance with social distancing, hoping to minimise damage to the child’s long-term education without exposing them or their families to coronavirus. First to return are the nursery schoolers, and early-year providers as well as the oldest and youngest in primary school (years 1 and 6) and the top end of secondary school (years 10 and 12). Special schools, those that cater to young people with disabilities or behavioural issues, are expected to work towards a phased return with no aim towards specific age groups.

The wellbeing of NHS staff

At a time where the NHS staff have played such a critical role in looking after our loved ones, often experiencing daily trauma in the workplace, it is important they look after themselves not only physically, but also mentally.
